Drums and Dance of India

Drums and Dance of India

From ancient India, have come music and dance forms that have inspired the world. Nurtured by the maestros and infused with their creativity, these classical arts have evolved with the times. In the modern age, comes its modern form. Imbibed with the nuances and richness of classical, molded with look and flavor of contemporary, Drums and Dance of India is today’s incarnation of classical tabla and Kathak (the drums and dance of northern India). Conceptualized by tabla maestro Pandit Divyang Vakil, with the power of percussion, precise dance postures and passion of the performers, Drums and Dance of India speaks of the relevancy of classical in the new age.

The first half takes to movement. Set to live drumming, Indian and world music, dancers JoungJin Won (Jin) and Sweetkruth B.P., show the facets of Kathak dance in its traditional and modern form.

In the second half, percussion ensemble Talavya (formerly Tabla Ecstasy) expands the palette of classical tabla, while staying true to its essence. It moves between rousing peaks and slower, meditative passages, allowing its audience to experience the breadth of emotions invoked by the tabla.

Please note:  Drums and Dance of India is also performed with a solo Kathak dance performance by either JoungJin Won or Sweekruth instead of Kathak duet .
